Shaderunner® Case Study – Mt Hutton
Our Mt Hutton client's request was for flexible shade to fix to an existing pergola structure where the polycarbonate sheeting was causing a greenhouse effect.
There were many considerations at play and a lot of planning went into the right design to find a solution that would not overload the existing roof structure and work within the pergola already in place. The client was also keen to have the awnings stack at the lower sides, rather than in the middle to keep the structure clear when the awning is not extended.
We opted for a retractable shade that maintained the aesthetic appeal and were able to design a solution to avoid bulky components that could detract from the overall design.
Solution
The solution proposed was the Shaderunner® Retractable shade awning system, custom fitted to the existing pergola structure.
To achieve the desired result we adopted the unique Shaderunner® Trax Mono system. By opting for tracks instead of traditional wires, we were able to transfer the loads to the frame, reducing stress and ensuring structural integrity. The result was seamless and felt like a natural extension of the original pergola. Attention to detail was paramount; all components have been powder-coated to match the pergola's colour, and we used high quality marine grade stainless steel fittings.
The challenge of routing the rope and pulley systems required some ingenuity, and we created a solution that involved specific rope lengths to guide the pulleys down to the only two posts available for the install.
Dimensions of 4.2 meters by 2.6 meters per bay.
Colours
- Dulux Monument
- Vistaweave 95 Colorbond® Shale Grey
Result
The result was a stunning combination of functionality and style and the client was very happy with the outcome.
“This installation was immensely satisfying, and we are very proud of the achievement. A lot of thought went into how to make this work effectively, and to see the results of the install on such a hot day made it all the more rewarding. We know this has met the brief and achieved what we set out to do.”
